# Introduction

Fuse Lab has changed a lot since we started in 2017. The work has become bigger, the clients more complex and demanding, and the team more distributed. Along the way, we have learned that sustainably producing good work depends on more than talent. It requires good judgment, clear context, individual ownership, honest communication and a culture where people help make each other better.

This handbook is an attempt to make those principles explicit. We have written it first for ourselves, to give the people at Fuse Lab a clearer understanding of how we want to work, lead, make decisions and grow together.

It is not intended to prescribe an answer for every situation. That would be impossible, and probably unbearable to read. Instead, it should provide enough shared context for people to exercise their own judgment when the answer is not obvious.

Like Fuse Lab itself, this is a work in progress. The goal is not to preserve the company exactly as it is today. It is to keep improving it without losing the freedom, openness, creativity and humanity that made it worth building in the first place.
