# Leadership & Context

Create the conditions for good work and independent judgment.

## What Leadership Means at Fuse Lab

Leadership at Fuse Lab is not a title, and it is definitely not a license to have more meetings.

A leader's job is to create the conditions for other people to do good work with as much independence as their role and experience allow.

That means six things in practice.

## Direction

Make it clear where we are going and what matters now. People should not have to reverse-engineer company priorities from whoever sounded most stressed in the last meeting.

## Context

Explain the why, the stakes, the owner, the relevant constraints and what success looks like. If you want good judgment from people, give them something useful to judge with.

## Feedback

Coach regularly. Say what is working, what needs to improve and what you are seeing. Annual reviews should summarize an ongoing conversation, not reveal a plot twist.

## Fairness

Pay attention to workload, opportunity, recognition and underperformance. High performers should not become the default dumping ground for every fire. People who are struggling deserve clarity and help, not months of ambiguity.

## Recognition

Notice meaningful contributions before immediately handing over the next problem. Be specific about what somebody did well and why it mattered.

## Protection

Push back on avoidable chaos. Some pressure is part of agency life. Repeatedly creating urgency through poor planning is not a culture.
