# Communication

Good communication reduces the amount of management a company needs.

Our default is to communicate where the relevant people can see the context. Discord is our main internal communication space, and public team/client channels are usually better than private DMs when the information could help somebody else.

A useful message normally contains enough context for the receiver to act:

* what is happening
* why it matters
* what you need from them
* by when
* a link to the source material

**"Please check" is not a brief.**

Async by default does not mean slow by default. If something is genuinely urgent, say so and use the channel that will reach the person. If it is not urgent, do not manufacture urgency because you want an immediate answer.

Important decisions should not live only in chat. Write the decision back into the document, Asana task or source of truth where someone will find it later.
