# When to Create or Update a Living Document

Create one at the start of any ongoing client relationship or significant project where context will need to survive beyond one person.

The Account Manager or project lead is responsible for making sure the document has an owner. That owner does not have to personally write every line, but somebody needs to care whether it is still true.

Update it when:

* the scope changes
* key people change
* the workflow changes
* a new campaign or major project begins
* a recurring client preference or watchout becomes clear
* an important decision would otherwise disappear into chat
* somebody completes a handover
